Weight Loss: Why Exercise Is Essential

Posted by on September 30, 2008 at 1:00 pm

Staying healthy and fit is a lifelong commitment for many women and men and there are no short cuts in this arena. My philosophy has always been to keep a healthy life style by eating healthy foods, exercising regularly and keeping a positive respectful attitude towards life.
For the most part I look forward to the daily exercises, but when I have had a hard day at work, fleeting thoughts interrupt common sense with "do I really want to go to the gym", and my common sense takes over and saves me with the answer Yes! So off to the gym I go. Once the class starts I am so glad I put the effort to get there. After all it just a moment in time and I Am investing in a healthy body and a more youthful me the results are visible and wonderful. It takes real commitment to exercise and to change old eating habits.

Convince Yourself To Go Back To Gym

Posted by on September 29, 2008 at 1:00 pm

People find all sorts of excuses to avoid going to the gym. The high-cost of some gym memberships, the time commitment involved and the feelings of intimidation associated with working out in front of others are just a few of the excuses people use to make themselves feel better about skipping their workouts to watch Desperate Housewives and eat potato chips.

While you don't need to have a fancy gym membership to get in shape or shed unwanted pounds, going to the gym is a great way to meet your fitness and weight-loss goals. Not only will you have access to a wide variety of effective fitness equipment, but you will also be inspired by other gym-goers and are more free from distractions than you would be at home.

Such A Thing As Too Much Exercise?

Posted by on September 28, 2008 at 1:00 pm

There is definitely a such thing as too much exercise-or exercise overload, as I say it. Exercising too much could affect many of your organs. If you are exercising more than two hours each day, you are facing exercise overload.

With too much exercise, a person may begin to experience fatigue. This is the body’s way of telling you to slow down. These people are more at risk for injury too, since their muscles are working overtime, and the person is most likely not stretching before workouts, and cooling down after workouts. I have also heard from several doctors that too much exercise could cause damage to your thyroid-this is a butterfly-shaped organ in your neck. Your thyroid has a big responsibility for such a small organ. It regulates everything from body temperature to muscle coordination to body weight. A too-slow or too-quick thyroid leads to problems such as heart attacks, strokes, kidney/liver damage, and muscle weakness so bad the person may need to be in a wheelchair for the rest of their life.

How To Make Your Dog A Part Of The Family

Posted by on September 27, 2008 at 1:00 pm

As we all know, dogs are descendants of wolves, even the most unlikely of pooches – the little curly white miniature poodle, for example. Wolves are pack animals, meaning that in order for them to feel whole, or complete, they must be a part of a tribe, not unlike humans.

But dogs still have their pack habits, despite several thousand years of trying to domesticate it out of them. And since dogs no longer have their wolf buddies to hang with, they need and expect that from other dogs, or absent that, their human counterparts.

How To Clean A Dog’s Ears

Posted by on September 26, 2008 at 1:00 pm

Ear cleaning is one of the most overlooked aspects of dog grooming, therefore its no surprise that many dogs will develop ear infections over the course of their lives. Some breeds are particularly prone to this, such as the cocker spaniel or any of the breeds that have long hanging ears. One of the main reasons for this is that there is poor air flow under the ear flap, causing moisture and bacteria to cultivate. Conversely, dogs with small ears can be prone to swimmer's ear, when water all to easily flows into the ear canal. It is very important to pay attention to the ears as part of the regular grooming process.

In order to clean the ears, have the following items on hand.

1. A sturdy table with a bathmat or other rubber matting placed on top.
2. Cotton balls- Q-tips or cotton swabs will NOT do.
3. Ear cleaning solution from a pet store or groomers.
4. A soft cloth such as a microfibre cloth
5. Some organic dog treats.
